Beautiful "lensless lenses"

A couple of new imaging toys arrived over the past week. Just in time for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. The little gems above are called Skink Pinhole Pancakes. Basically, they are pinhole lenses made for digital cameras. However, they can also be used on film slr and rangefinder cameras.

Skink is a brand of precision engineered and beautifully machined Pinhole mounts that fit most DSLR and Mirrorless cameras. They are available for nearly any camera with interchangeable lenses. In fact, the actual mounts shown are made to fit an M42 screw thread which in turn uses an appropriate camera mount adapter to fit the particular camera you want to use. The two shown above came with Pentax K mount adapters.

While pinhole is generally referred to as a form of lensless photography, these amazing plates are worthy to be called lenses. They may be used with any of a number of available precision pinhole, Zone Plate or Zone Sieve optics which produce a variety of different photographic looks. Each of the available optics is designed to optimize the image results based on sensor size and focal length. Whether you shoot digital or film these great pinhole mounts will produce exceptional results.

Between now and WPPD, I'll be creating images utilizing these adapters with pinhole, zone plate and zone sieve lens plates. I'll explain each type of lens in a number of follow-up posts along with a sampling of images.

Are you getting ready?

April 29th and WPPD is going to be here in a little over a month.

Here is the poster: My 2013 WPPD Poster with links to more links about Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, building cameras, learning about pinhole photography and how to get involved.
